RN - Family Practice

Position: RN - Family Practice (Permanent Full-Time)

Reports To:  Executive Director

 

Position Summary:

As a key member of the Couchiching Family Health Team (CFHT), and an integral part of an interdisciplinary health care team, the Registered Nurse will work with a variety of patients, from pediatric to geriatric, to promote and restore patients' health by completing the nursing process; collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary team members, and provide physical and psychological support to patients, friends, and families.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Establish treatment plans, operating medical equipment
  • Perform diagnostic testing
  • Perform frequent and accurate patient evaluations, including monitoring and tracking vital signs and respond appropriately
  • Coordinate and review lab work
  • Prepare patients and administer physical examinations
  • Follow procedures for obtaining and returning or cleaning and disposing of equipment and supplies
  • Answer and refer telephone calls or other inquires to ensure accurate and timely communications are facilitated.
  • Communicate with the physician regarding patient needs, the nursing assessments, and recommendations
  • Maintain correct and proper records and files with respect to patients in accordance with applicable legislation, and the regulations as required by the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Identify patient care requirements by establishing personal rapport with patients and other persons in a position to understand care requirements
  • Establish a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, friends, and families
  • Promote patient's independence by establishing patient care goals; teaching patient, friends, and family to understand condition, medications, and self-care skills; answering questions
  • Assure quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards; measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and standards; making or recommending necessary adjustments
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Protect patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations
  • Maintain patient confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential
  • Maintain nursing supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies
  • Collaborate with members of an interdisciplinary health team
  • Handle patient phone calls, provide telephone advice and arrange for follow up
  • Work in compliance with Health and Safety laws adhering to safe work practices and procedures established by the CFHT
  • Other duties as required

Education/Specific Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or equivalent
  • Current membership with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
  • Current membership in professional associations: Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO)
  • Ability to work evenings or weekends if required
  • Police Record/Vulnerable Sector Check

 

Experience:

  • Preferred experience working in a Family Physician’s office, within a clinic and/or community setting
